A Coruna, A Coruna, Spain

About

After a vote taken on our website during the month of July 2010, that was the name chosen. It is a name that has a lot to do with Corunna, Galicia and with Ireland. In the Book of Invasions of Ireland, a collection of manuscripts that narrate the various conquests that suffered the Emerald Isle until the eleventh century, linking the existence of the gaelic people to Galicia. There is talk of the Celtic Gaels (Irish and Scottish) and the descendants of King Fénius Farsa, one of the seventy-two heroes builders of the Tower of Babel. This gave the Irish language, as his grandfather, Gaedel Glas, took seventy-two languages in which the world was divided after the fall of the Tower. Gaedel was paired with Scotta, the daughter of Pharaoh of Egypt, and its people began an exodus of four hundred forty-four years, ending in Gallaecia. There, one of his descendants, Briogann, founded Brigantium, Corunna today. In this new city, build a tower, now called Tower of Heracles, from which his son Ith currency Ireland. Ith was a green island and there was. The people of the goddess Danu (Tuatha Dé Danann), the people of Ireland before the arrival of the Celts, killed the son of Briogann. Decades later, Míl Espáine, grandson of Briogann, avenged the death of Ite and conquered Ireland. Hence, the early Celtic inhabitants of the island, the Milesians (named after its leader Míl Espáine), were the descendants of Briogann from Galicia. No longer a legend, but thanks to Pondal poem, the Galician Hymn, The Pines, persisted over time in our land. Thus, Galicia becomes Briogann’s Home and Briogann’s Nation, as we sing the verses of poet from Ponteceso. Moreover, the shield contains the flag of the Corunna’s Port. The historic flag of the city that was copied to the flag of Galicia. On it, a skull and crossbones. The circles represent Geryon, a giant who was killed by Heracles, so says the Greek mythology, and buried beneath what was then lifted the Tower of Heracles in Corunna. They also represent Ith died, the son of Briogann, with the subsequent vengeance of Míl Espáine Briogann’s grandson, allowed the legendary link between Ireland and Galicia. In addition, a ball that really matters: gaelic football. Finally, the team’s colors: blue, black and white. Blue and white flag of A Coruña, Galicia flag and because, thanks to Deportivo also took the colors of the flag, those colours are the symbol of this city and this land all over the world. The black, as a differentiating factor and because we played with the themes of Geryon and Ith, related to death, like us, we die for this team. And above all, because blue, black and white are cool.
