About

Harlesden Harps were established as a GAA club in 1990 by George McDermott of Longford, Joe Lynch, Mick Smith, Frank Bannon all of Cavan and Liam Coyle of Tyrone. In their first season they were beaten in the Semi-Final of the London Junior Championship. The following year they were beaten in the Final of the Junior Championship and also won their first ever silverware by winning the McArdle Cup. In 1992, two years after being formed they achieved a championship victory by winning the Junior Championship and also retained the McArdle Cup. The Harps struggled at the intermediate football level and were relegated back down to Junior football a couple of seasons later. They won the Junior Championship for the second time in their existence in 1996 also capturing the McArdle cup for the third time. They were better able to adjust to the intermediate level the second time of asking and succeeded in reaching 5 finals in three years. 2005 has proven to be the most successful year in the history of Harlesden Harps. After winning the Intermediate Championship thereby securing Senior football for the first time in the clubs existence, the Harps progressed through the Junior British Championship defeating the previous years winners on the way to book a place in the final against the Scottish champions Dunedin Connollys of Edinburgh. The Harps were victorious leaving Dunedin Connollys as runners up for the second year running. As British Junior Champions Harlesden were awarded with an away match in the All-Ireland Junior Club quarter finals against the Ulster champions Monaghan Harps who on the day were more clinical and experienced and it was the Harps from Monaghan that progressed through to the semi-final stage. After such a big year, one that will be very hard to repeat, Harlesden Harps are looking forward to the new challenges playing at a higher level are going to bring.
