About

Copenhagen GAA is a Gaelic football and hurling club located in the heart of Copenhagen. There is both a men’s and a ladies’football team, while the hurlers are part of the Scandinavian hurling team called the Viking Gaels. The club was initiated around November 2003 when 3-4 people met in Kennedy’s Barand talked about getting a club together. They had heard that there was a European league/tournament running. That winter there was a meeting in Kennedy’s Bar for anyone who was interested, where about 12 -14 people turned up and it was decided to start on up. In late April or early May 2004, Copenhagen GAA played its first game against Gothenbourg, who were also on the verge of getting a club going, but I think it was another year or 2 before it was official for them. The game was played at DTU in Lyngby – both hurling and football and was covered by Viasat sport, they might still have the footage! In June 2004 the club travelled to Luxembourg to play in its first tournament. Over the years the club has won many different awards. The highlight for the men’s team occurred when they won three European Shields in a row in 2008, 2009, and 2010. You will find a full list the club’s awards here and our player’s awards here. There is a wide mix of different nationalities involved in our club including members from Ireland, Denmark, Sweden, Iceland, Britain, and Canada. If you are interested in joining, then please contact us or come along to one of our training sessions.
