About

The Shenzhen Celts Gaelic Football Club was founded in the summer of 2004 by a couple of Shenzhen veterans – Peter Watson, Greg Schultheis, Donald MacCallum and Dan Givens. From a small bunch of unfit, unsporting and untalented group of wannabe footballers the club has grown into a bigger and more organsied group of expats who play regular, competitive games. It’s been a busy year around Shenzhen, hosting the largest All China games ever in April. A cracking day of football in the South China sun was enjoyed by representatives from all over the Middle Kingdom, including His Excellency Declan Kelleher once again making the journey to support our GAA events (thanks in no small part to a certain volcano in Iceland delaying original plans to be in Ireland at that time!!). Hong Kong edged a 2 point victory in the Cup final against a stronger than ever Shenzhen side, with Shanghai taking the Ladies title defeating a brave Hong Kong team. Much thanks to the many travelling players, supporters from 8 cities around China, as well as the infamous “vulonteers” that made the day such a special event. Recovering from that epic day of football took somewhat longer than expected, but thankfully training is now back up and in full swing with the exception of a few niggling injuries that tend to flare up around 7:30 Monday evening… with 6 weeks to go we are building momentum and will travel in force across the border to Shenzhen’s suburb of Hong Kong!
