Clann na nGael Hurling Club

Toronto, Ontario, Canada

About

Clan na Gael Hurling Club [Established 2016] came about after a couple of years of Toronto Gaels Gaelic Football Club members Kieran "Rusty" Boyle and Michael "Mick" Cussen playing with the idea of starting a new Hurling club in the city, and was also spurred on by newcomer Sean Beirne, with support from Bernadette Beirne, and Toronto Gaels members Shane Watters, Sean O'Molloy, and Keith Barry. Clan na Gael (Irish language spelling "Clann na nGael") means "Family of the Gaels". Rusty and Mick, having played Gaelic Football with the Toronto Gaels for the previous five years, and with the Gaels having become such a big part of their new lives in Canada, decided that this would be a fitting name for the new Hurling club. They were also proud to establish the club on the 100th anniversary of the Easter Rising in Ireland in 1916, which is seen as the beginning of an Independent Ireland. As a club we look forward to building a strong legacy of our own in the coming years and to welcoming new arrivals from Ireland and helping them grow into their new lives here, and welcoming Canadians to play and share in our proud sporting heritage.
